As journalists, a breed of people whose words give them power, it’s very rare when we are at a loss for them. But here we are, struggling to start this editorial, for we know there is no easy way to put you on paper. No combination of words will ever come close to explaining how meaningful you were to us.

You might not read this. We never really knew if you could read or not, now that we think about it. But it’s important for us to unbottle our words of unwavering gratitude and now deep remorse and throw them out into the universe. Get them on paper. Maybe you’ll never find this note. But maybe someone else will, and maybe they will cry with us.

The latter is probably what you would’ve preferred, for one of the most important things you taught us was to never underestimate the power of a connection.

Your worth can’t be reasoned through the countless smiles and laughs you made. You gave us something more, something priceless. You gave us a chance to connect with others. You gave us a space where people from all walks of life could come together with a simple common purpose: to make the person next to them smile.

You gave us a platform to encourage turning adversity into humor. To laugh about Model Home’s impeachment or a 102-year-old decorated WWII veteran being ambushed on stage.

Consequently, you gave us a new way to look at life. If we saw an annoying email about some alumni’s missing wireless music earbud, our pang of annoyance was muted with the power of possibility. __ was no longer a tribulation that tested our faith and sanity. It was an opportunity to laugh.

You gave us a lot. And in return, we will give you this letter, a token of our appreciation, in a pathetic attempt to show you your impact on us.

Dark forces took you away. But your legacy is not being deleted with you. You deserved better. You deserved the world. We are sorry we couldn’t give it to you, after all you gave us. Rest in peace, @WeeklyMemePage.
