Kick Off

Looking Ahead to the 2016 Fall Season

Kick+Off

Soccer:

Coach Neil Curran again looks to lead a group of young men into an exciting season. This year’s team will try to build off the success of being Class 2A Regional Champions last year and advance even further in the State tournament, though that might be difficult because there are a large number of schools that are larger than ours. Maturity is something that can make a difference in players.  Captain Andres Marx, a senior, said, “This year will be different because our young players, which we had a lot of, have had another year to mature and improve.” With over 70 boys showing up for preseason, it will be exciting to see what the Varsity and Junior Varsity sides can do this year.

Tennis:

Captains Isabel Saltzman and Katherine Leonard, both seniors, have a tough road ahead of them, trying to mesh the team and the new coaches, Amy Roberts and Alice Tebbutt. Moreover, the inexperienced underclassmen will need to step up in order for the team to finish high in the ISL standings. The new coaches bring a new dynamic, which could be for the better. “Katherine and I want to make this season as competitive as possible,” Saltzman said.  “We are going to lead the team with both spirit and determination.”  The girls are very excited to find their stride this season.

Field Hockey:

With coach Holly Palin at the helm, captains Evan Hughes, Fiona Gallagher, and Franny Weed, all seniors, spearhead a talented roster filled with underclassmen. The squad graduated a group of strong seniors but will try to fill those holes with the new talent. The girls have done camps together and held informal practices over the summer to strengthen their bond and work to get better. It will be very exciting to see if the girls can make a deep run in the State tournament.

Cross Country:

Alongside state qualifier Jack McNabola, a junior, senior–and captain–Will Polsky has the task of leading a group of co-ed runners into an exciting fall. “The biggest challenge,” Polsky said, “is to expand team numbers and stay in shape.” Another undertaking Polsky and company have to deal with is North Ridge Prep.  “North Ridge is the best,” he said. “We have to find a way to beat them this year. They’re always tough, but that’s what makes it fun.”

Golf:

Seniors Ben Gershuny and Cam Roehm head a skillful group of golfers into an exciting season. The youthful talent finally has an opportunity to showcase their skills. And they’ll have the chance to do it, too, with the squad expecting to win the ISL this year and hoping to advance even further in the State tournament. The team has great chemistry, and golf is anticipating a great season.

Volleyball:

Volleyball comes into a year full of unknowns because of the young talent and the new coaching staff. The team was able to bond during their summer workouts, but it all changes once the coaches come into play. Captains Leigh Logan (senior) and Moré Fabiyi (junior) are very excited for their new task, as the JV and Varsity teams look to challenge the best of the ISL
