Under a new Head Coach, Kevin Snider, who brought almost an entirely new staff with him, the boys’ basketball team finished the season with a record of 12-12, beating Holy Trinity in the Regional quarterfinal before losing to DePaul College Prep (formerly Gordon Tech) in the Regional semifinal game, 55-76.

Of the 24 games played, seven were decided by five points or less, including one game that went into triple overtime. Notably, both White Out games were decided by two points or fewer, with one of them ending after overtime.

A captain and Williams College commit, senior Marc Taylor averaged 23.3 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game, with Alex Chapman leading the team in assists, averaging 4.7 per game. “We played a great season,” Taylor said. “I wouldn’t have wanted my last year to be with anyone else.”

The junior varsity team ended with a record of 6-16. “We bonded a lot as a team off the court, and that helped our chemistry on the court,” Junior captain Drew Munger said. “Coach Snider faces an uphill battle for next year’s team, seeing as the team will lose Taylor and two other key seniors, Ben Gershuny and Jason Lansing.

After not fielding a team just two years ago, the girls’ basketball program had a tough, but rewarding year, finishing with a record of 5-12. The squad had 18 girls on the team, which is a huge improvement from last year, when they had only six. Further, they played a varsity schedule this year, whereas they played a junior varsity schedule last year, which contributed to their solid 17-4 record.

The girls are the only team this year to have a sophomore as a captain, Elisabye Slaymaker, and that made for great inclusiveness. The team bonded through long bus rides and late night practices, according to Slaymaker.

“I loved this year so much,” senior captain Morgan Harler said. “A great group of girls made it one to remember. At the end, it got to be super frustrating because I hurt my foot and couldn’t play, but the team really rallied around me and made me feel special, even though I couldn’t be out there with them. ” The girls will look to take this season’s successes and amplify it next year, with three of the five starters returning.
