As Good As A Slurpee
Parker Sophomores Abri Berg and Isabel Olesinski Star in Devonshire Playhouse’s “Heathers”
Bright light, a couple stage fights, and two incredible Parker sophomores!
Abri Berg and Isabel Olesinski wrapped up a 12-week theater production at the Devonshire Playhouse in Skokie on Sunday, March 25. After months of late night rehearsals, the show “Heathers” came to the stage in magnificent fashion.
Berg played the lead, Veronica Sawyer, a smart outcast who is just trying to make it through senior year. Sawyer ends up throwing away her morals and her best friend for the chance to join Heathers, a group of untouchable girls who run the school and will never come close to being teased in the ways Veronica is every day.
Berg sang her way through a musical about depression and suicide, yet she somehow brought the crowd to grin with every note.
Berg’s co-star, Jake Pranian, played the role of Jason Dean,or “J.D.” This Skokie native and Lincoln Jr. High 8th Grader destined for Broadway dazed the crowd with his breathtaking voice. Pranian countered his character’s disobedience with poise and grace.
The Heathers were played by Hannah Gassman, Kylie Smith, and Jessie Bowers, all aspiring actors with loads of talent. Their matching outfits and pouty faces set the mood of the show right off the bat.
Isabel Olesinski was one of 15 other cast members whose voices contributed beautifully to choral pieces and whose dance moves took the stage by storm. Olesinski stood out in many pieces for her precise movements, and she did a wonderful job embodying a student at Westerburg High School.
The ensemble of 28, composed of teens and adults, ran four shows, all which filled the theater. Olesinski and Berg did an impeccable job representing Parker–portraying their characters with confidence, displaying their acting ability, and wowing the audience with their five-star voices and ballroom quality dance moves.
