On the cloudy day of September 21, seven Parker teams got ready for one of the most important games of their fall season: homecoming. Starting at 8:00 a.m. and running through 2  p.m., all of the teams participating were hard at work preparing for or playing in their games.

“Each game was great,” Athletic Director Bobby Starks said. “They were competitive and well-played, even if we came out on the losing side.”

The Varsity Field Hockey team played against Latin at 12:30 p.m.,winning the game 2-0. Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach Misha Geller acclaimed the team on their ability to “maintain their steady demeanor.”

They persevered,” Geller said. “They maintained their steady demeanor and didn’t get physical even when Latin did.”

The Varsity Soccer team played at 2 p.m. They, like many other Parker teams, played against Latin, ending the game with a tie of 2-2. One of the team captains, Tomas Catoggio, praised the team on their ability to “rise to the occasion”.

“I thought the team did a great job coming out, playing our best game, and not being intimidated at all,” Catoggio said.

Catoggio also spoke about what he thought the team could improve on in the future. “I think that our biggest issue right now is that we struggle to play together and communicate and be able to play as one team on the field,” Catoggio said. “If we were able to interlock and have better chemistry, then I think we would be one of the better teams in the division.”

The Junior Varsity Volleyball team was originally supposed to play against Guerin Prep at 10 a.m., but their game was cancelled at the last minute. They ended up doing a fun scrimmage instead. “The homecoming scrimmage was fun for the girls and they especially did well with communicating and effort,” Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach Tajah Bell said.

Bell also talked about an improvement that she thinks the team can work on. “Something I think they could improve on is their team swagger,” Bell said. “I would love for them to get hyped and own their sport.”

At 11:30 a.m, the varsity volleyball team played against Lincoln Park High School, losing the game 1-2.

The Junior Varsity Soccer and Field Hockey teams also did very well during Homecoming.

The Junior Varsity Field Hockey team played Latin at 11:00 a.m, losing the game 0-1. The Junior Varsity Blue Soccer team played at 9:30 a.m., also against Latin. They won the game 2-1.

The Junior Varsity White team played their game shortly before the blue team at 8 a.m. They lost the game 0-2. Freshman Lydia Blasko had some kind words to say about the team as she watched from the bleachers. “I think their work ethic has paid off,” Blasko said. “It shows how dedicated they are.”

Even with the team’s loss, Blasko noticed one of the team’s greatest strengths was communicating with each other. “I think the team is doing a great job with communication, and they are working their hardest,” Blasko said.
