In Response to “God, Mom, and Cookies”

(September 4)

Is she working in the building across the street? Did she quit? Was her position eliminated? Did she start a cookie business? Where is Karen Hardaway (Cookie)? This is a question that has been plaguing the minds of students all around Parker’s Upper School. Although I too wonder where Cookie is, I am more interested in why her absence has not been formally acknowledged. What does this silence say about how much Cookie’s hard work and dedication was appreciated? I don’t have the answers to these questions, but I do have the power to publicly acknowledge her.
Cookie,
Thank you for everything that you have done for me and for Students United. Thank you for always giving me advice, letting me use your mini-fridge and microwave, giving me snacks and Arizona Iced Teas, and for always being a friendly face. Most of all, thank you for making your office a safe space for all of us who are different, whether that be because we’re students of color, or just different in thought. I wish you well in all of your future endeavors.
Much Love,

Lady T (Tania Giordani ’16)
