Things to Watch
Movies and TV Shows That Will Make Quarantine Stink Less
Everybody’s stuck inside with nothing to do, so I’m going to recommend some TV shows and movies that you should watch to keep you from driving yourselves crazy during quarantine. I watch a new movie probably four times a week, and I have watched all of the movies on this list at least five times. So before you say, “Why should we listen to him?” Just trust me when I say that I know a thing or two when it comes to movies and television.
The first movie I recommend you watch is “The Edge Of 17.” This is a mix of comedy and drama, and it just works on all levels. This film is about a high school junior Nadine (Hailee Seinfeld), who is already super awkward when her superstar brother (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend (Haley Lu Richardson). Nadine feels more alone than ever, until her friendship with a thoughtful teen (Hayden Szeto) blossoms, and gives her hope that everything is going to be okay.
For those of you missing sports, this next movie, “Miracle,” is the story of the 1980 US men’s Olympic hockey team. This is my favorite movie of all time, as I’m a huge sports fan, and this movie is an unbelievable story about the greatest sports game in our country’s history. You don’t even have to be a hockey fan, and I guarantee you will still love this movie. This is the story about the 1980 US men’s olympic team led by Coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) beating the greatest team to ever step foot on frozen water, the Soviet Union. This is, in my opinion, the greatest sports movie of all time, as it tells a better story than any other I’ve ever seen. This is the only movie on this list that is a true story.
The next movie on this list is “Yesterday.” This movie is about a struggling musician in England (Himeesh Patel), who gets hit by a bus in a freak accident when the entire world goes on a power outage for 12 seconds. After the blackout, he wakes up to realize that the blackout made the Beatles never exist. Jack starts performing songs from the greatest band of all time and becomes the greatest musician to ever live, overnight.
The final movie I’m going to recommend for you is called “Instant Family.” This movie is a family movie, and it is one that everybody can enjoy. This movie is about a couple (Mark Whalberg and Rose Byrne) who decide to start a family, and they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child, but the child has three siblings including a rebellious 15-year-old girl, a rambunctious little girl, and a super scared little boy. Pete and Ellie now must try to learn how to become parents in the hope of becoming a family. This is something the whole family can enjoy, and there are some great laughs throughout the entire film.
Not everybody is a movie person, so there are a few TV shows I think you guys might like. The first one is “Schitt’s Creek.” This show is about an incredibly rich family who suddenly finds themselves broke, and they’re forced to live in their only remaining asset, a town called “Schitt’s Creek,” which they once bought as a joke. Throughout this six season show, the family makes friends and makes themselves a home in this little dingy town. This is a great watch, and it is one of my favorite shows as it is incredibly funny as it pokes fun at the spoiled rich family adjusting to normal people’s lives.
The next show is the sequel from the 80s and 90s blockbuster show “Full House,” “Fuller House.” This show has the same plot as the original show — three close friends living in one house trying to raise multiple kids. I will say this though, if you haven’t seen the original “Full House,” go see that first as it has most of the same characters from the original show, and it follows the same story line. This show is just a great sitcom to watch. It is jam packed with entertainment and jokes and is also a good reminder of how important family is.
The fourth and final television show I’m going to recommend is called “Life In Pieces.” This show follows the lives of three generations of the Short family as they go about their daily lives in Los Angeles. Each episode is told as four short stories, one for each of the Short family branches that all connect. Hence the title, “Life in Pieces.” This show is jam packed with hilarious comedy and also has hidden messages and good messages for how to live an adult life, and how not to. If you’re a fan of sitcoms about family, then I recommend watching this show.
Watching television and movies are great things to do to stay busy during this very boring quarantine, and these shows and movies are great things to watch. Trust me when I say this, these are some of the most underappreciated movies and TV shows I have ever seen. So do yourself a favor, and try some out.
