Still Empty

The Storefront where Cosi Was

After a year and a couple months of being closed, the storefront on the corner of Clark and Webster, where Cosi once stood, is still empty. Cosi is a sitdown restaurant chain, particularly known for it’s flat bread and sandwiches. It’s a regular food place for all sorts of people, such as families, kids, couples, and more. The Cosi by Parker, on Clark and Webster, was open for eight years, so when it was announced that it was closing, it came as quite a disappointment to the Parker community seeing as students, teachers and parents would be losing out on a major food stop. However, the particular corner where Cosi was has had past troubles in trying to get a store to stick. The Blockbuster that had been there previously didn’t last long either.

The storefront is a prime spot for any business, which is why it is still so surprising nothing new has popped in there. However, seeing as it is a large spot on such a busy corner, it is suggested that rent there was very high. In fact, a website called Everyblock, a site used for neighborhood discussions, said that after talking to the manager rent was so high  that they were actually losing money.

Rumors have started circling all over about what the old location will turn into. A comment on Yelp suggested Starbucks move into from its prime, yet relatively small space on Clark and Dickens. Sophomore Maya Plotnick said “I’m really curious on what the old Cosi will become. I think that another food place will take its spot. I wouldn’t be surprised if Big Bowl moved from its original spot farther down on Clark into it. Since Parker is right across the street from the corner, and people love to go out for lunch and snacks, I could see how restaurant businesses would know that they would get a lot of business from us.”

While rumors are flying, the options for what will happen to Cosi are still open and for the time being will remain that way.
