There has been a sudden problem in the math classrooms, all starting with a leak in the pipes from around four years ago. Mold has been found in many of the first floor math classrooms. This finding is a huge red flag as it is a health hazard and can become a toxic air pollutant. But the biggest question is what’s the next step?
This is the second time that mold has shown up in our school. The first occurrence being on the fourth floor in the middle school drama room. The problem has since been solved and classes have resumed. Though the efforts were beneficial, the room was closed since the beginning of this school year and has only just reopened. The drama classes were taught elsewhere in rooms like the Humanities Center and the Auditorium. These same actions are happening for all classes taught by Upper School math teachers Steven Tyler, Robert Wilson, Ethan Levine, Wendy Olt, and Sven Carlsson.
Upper School students whose classes were once on the first floor, are currently being held in English and history rooms. The math teachers temporarily have decided to reside in the Humanities Center as their office. Though, this cannot be sustained— so what’s next?
Like seen in the middle school drama room, each classroom in the first floor math wing will be checked for mold, and when all of it is checked and cleaned, classes will resume as normal.
