It’s sunny and brisk, and a slight breeze maintains an ideal temperature on the ten tennis courts at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. Seven schools are represented here at the Independent School League (ISL) Conference Championships, and the bleachers are crowded with players and parents alike, watching the action unfold on the courts. Teams clap, cheer, and shout encouragement as their members participate in the annual contest.

On October 8, Parker’s Varsity Tennis team played in the ISL Conference Championships, an all-day event. Each Parker seed–whether singles player or doubles pair–had the opportunity to play two or three matches in a tournament for the chance to win their bracket and help their team score an overall victory, based on their number of wins, which are worth two points each.

Sophomore and 1st Singles player Grace Chang came the closest, coming in second in her bracket, followed by junior and 2nd Singles player Olivia Levine, who placed third.

“Today’s conference went well overall,” senior and team co-captain Isabel Saltzman said. “I’m so proud of our team and the determination and spirit each one of us gave today. I’m going to miss being on the tennis team and being captain but am so excited to see the future of this team.” The team will lose Saltzman, as well as senior and co-captain Katherine Leonard and senior Yasmine Shafaie next year. “It was a great season overall,” Levine said.  “Our team did really well.”
