The State Showdown
Senior Jack McNabola competes in Three Point Contest
On Thursday March 8, basketball players in the Boys Class 1A & 2A Divisions competed in the State Three Point Showdown. The competition was held at Carver Arena, Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Illinois at 5:00 p.m.
After the boys’ basketball team was eliminated, ending their season, three students were picked by their coach to play in the Three Point Showdown.
2A division players lined up at the South basket of the arena, while the 1A division shot at the North Basket. Senior Jack McNabola participated as a member of Group 2 in the 2A division.
McNabola was the only one of the three picked who decided to attend. After advancing past the first round of competition, where he made twelve out of a total fifteen shots, he attended Sectionals. He then made nine out of fifteen shots in Sectionals and moved on to States after a playoff.
“It is a State event,” Athletic Director Bobby Starks said. “It’s important for him because he’s representing the school. It’s a big accomplishment.”
This was McNabola’s second year competing in the Three Point Showdown. He made his way to sectionals last year, but this year was his first to advance to State.
There were a total of thirty-one players at the State competition, with only four advancing to the Final Showdown. In State, McNabola made eight out of fifteen shots and did not advance to the Final.
“It’s only fifteen shots,” he said. “Sometimes you have good rounds, sometimes you have bad rounds.”
