Ladies, Let’s Vote

Thousands of Women Marched to the Polls Saturday, October 13

On Saturday, October 13, at 9:00 am, roughly 100,000 women crowded the streets of downtown Chicago to kick of the third Women’s March in Chicago since Donald Trump was elected to office in 2016.  The goal of this march was to come together, and as a group, march to the polls to kickoff early voting for Illinois residents.

This march was organized by Women’s March Chicago, an organization funded by Democrats and Democratic supporters. Major donors include the Chicago Federation of Labor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker’s campaign.  This particular march featured speakers from Jane Collective founder Heather Booth — a collective that helped women in Chicago get abortion counseling — as well as University of Illinois at Chicago Profesor Barbara Ransby.

Protestors gathered in Grant Park on Saturday, awaiting speakers who began at 10am.  Then, around 12:30, thousands of women marched a half mile west of the park towards Federal Plaza where they were able to cast their votes for the election on November 6.

The goal of this march was to create a safe space for women to be able to voice their opinions through voting and to show that they can help make a difference and flip the House.  Organizers believe that the march was a huge success and hope that even more women turn out to vote in just three weeks.
