Parker Takes a Shot at Sectionals

Parker Golf Team Makes History, Advancing Together in State Playoffs

On Tuesday, October 3, Parker’s golf team competed at Regionals at Maple Meadow Golf Course in Addison, Illinois, placing third out of four teams with a final score of 345, the sum of their top four individuals rounds.

“It was very exciting for the team,” sophomore Scottie Ingall said, “because it was a very historic moment.”

The team’s performance at Regionals secured their whole six-member varsity team a spot at Sectionals.

Led by Coach Tim O’Connor, the golf team – seniors Nick Skok and Drew Munger, juniors Nathan Satterfield and Dylan Andrews, sophomore Scottie Ingall, and freshman Nick Skok – competed together on October 9 at Elliot Golf Course in Rockford for sectionals.

The Illinois High School Association allows for both individuals and teams to advance through the state playoffs and, while Parker has had individual players succeed for years, the entire team succeeding is nearly unprecedented.

Athletic Director Bobby Starks said, “I am super excited for the team.”

Ingall is also thrilled. “It is very exciting for the golf team to go to sectionals,” Ingalls said, “because it is a very rare occurrence.”

This may be the first instance of full team qualification in Parker Golf history. “We’re trying to do some research to see when was the last time, if ever,” Starks said, “that our entire team has advanced to sectionals.”

In the past Parker has sent only their top couple of individuals to sectionals. “Hopefully they’ll have particularly good rounds on Monday,” Ingall said. “That way they’ll secure a spot in state.”
